Ham making in Meiho area started in 1953. In those days ham was not common food in Japan. People stood in a line in front of the ham shop to buy it early in the morning. The ham was really popular, and sold out soon.

The Meiho ham processor took over the original manufacturing method, and even now almost manufacturing processes are handmade. Only domestic ham is used. The hams can be eaten right out of the package.

Other items of theirs are sausage, smoked ham and frankfurt sausage, etc. They have a stall in the Surusumi-no-Sato Koen (a service area for drivers) on the Seseragi-Kaido, a road between Gujo and Takayama.
Nicely grilled sausages are very popular. At this stall you can eat the spicy wiener which is sold only here.
