Gujo-Hachiman-jo, castle

In 1556, in the late civil war period, a feudal lord Endo Morikazu built a fort which is the beginning of The Gujo-Hachiman Castle. In 1588, Inaba Sadamichi took control of the castle site and finished construction of the most of the stone walls on the foundation of donjon.

After that, the 6th lord, Endo Tsunetomo renovated the castle and the castle was recognized by the Edo Shogunate.

The Gujo castle you see today was rebuilt in 1933. From the castle, you can have a spectacular view of a castle town nestled in beautiful mountains.
