はざがけ(Hazagake) is a way to dry harvested rice under the sun. 稲架(はざ)is a equipment, a rack made of wooden poles. In this way, the moisture is slowly removed out of the rice.

Until 1970s, hazagake had been very common way everywhere in Japan, now almost famers use the machines to reap the rice, to bind them and dry them. Busy people think using machines is more efficient than handwork.

Doing hazagake is a lot of work, but it creates much more delicious rice than one made by machine.

Though there are not so many scenes of hazakake, it sure is one of the very Japanese sceneries for Japanese.
